Sound
Final Piece

For my final piece i explored how sound can have an influence on fine materials such as sugar and sand. Particularly focussing on its movements when exposed to high and loud frequencies and how it forms patterns of sound. This links to prior stages when exploring the idea of how different variables and factors of the environment

On my first attempt at recreating cymatic patterns i tried using reverberations from a speaker and using sugar on grease proof paper to try and mimic Chladani patterns.
This was somewhat successful but lacked definition when coming to the sugars movements.
Ernst Chladni
On the second shoot I used appropriate equipment to accurately form define patterns. the Chladni experiment makes sound waves visible by using vibration to move sand into intricate, symmetrical patterns on a metal plate. It demonstrates resonance, when a plate is bowed or vibrated at specific frequencies.
During this shoot i had the suitable equipment consisting of a metal square sheet, a vibration generator, a frequency generator and a amplifier.
